Sievesmith

Getting started

What you need

A mail account whose server offers ManageSieve (RFC 5804), usually on port 4190. Dovecot (Pigeonhole), Cyrus IMAP and Stalwart support it, and so do many mail providers. Ask your provider if you are unsure.

No server at hand? Tap Try the Demo (see below).

Add a server

  1. In the server list, choose Add Server (Mac: + below the list or ⌥⌘N).
  2. Enter a name, the host and your user name. Discover looks up the server of a mail domain in the DNS (_sieve._tcp.<domain> SRV record) and fills in host and port.
  3. Sign in:
    • Password: stored in the Keychain (iCloud Keychain syncs it to your other devices).
    • OAuth: for providers that sign in through their web page. Enter the authorization and token endpoint, the client ID and the redirect URI from your provider, then choose Sign In.
  4. Test Connection connects, shows the server’s software, sign-in methods and Sieve extensions.
  5. Save.

Sievesmith always uses an encrypted connection (STARTTLS) and accepts only valid certificates. Servers, settings and passwords sync through iCloud.

Try the demo

Try the Demo in the empty server list or in Add Server adds “Demo Mail”, a server inside the app with sample filters. Everything works on it, without a network or a subscription. It starts over with its sample filters every time the app launches, and its changes are never written to your Git mirror. Remove it like any server; Try the Demo brings it back.
